El mito de Dánae en las Confesiones de san Agustín
The Myth of Danae in the Confessions of Saint Augustine
Abstract
The links between literature and revelation are changing throughout the intellectual life of Saint Augustine: from the conviction of the centrality of the Liberal Arts to discern the meanings of Revelation, to its abandonment, from Confessions onwards, when he focused his efforts in the development of biblical exegesis. In this context of distance from classical culture, we place his interpretation, with clear rationalist overtones, of the myth of Danae and, closely related to it, a critique of the Roman educational system of Late Antiquity and a reflection on the scarce control of the reason over passions.
