In this volume 47 of Revista Tecnica de la Facultad de Ingenieria de la Universidad del Zulia, our editorial pays tribute in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán (1924-1999), an illustrious Zulian who was one of the Venezuelan researchers with the greatest international projection during the second half of the 20th century, a scientist in two fundamental facets, as a basic researcher who contributed significantly to the development of electron microscopy and knowledge about cellular ultrastructure, especially nervous tissue, and as promoter of scientific development in Venezuela.
