Abstract

Absorption air conditioners have been trade in Venezuela in small scale for over 30 years. Currently it became an attractive alternative for the reduction in electricity consumption in residential areas and from an ecological point of view for its low environmental impact. Although these systems have been widely studied, there is few experimental data. The present work is aimed to base a long term study that propose massive use of this technology in the country. The article describes equipment and instruments required for the assembly of a benchtest and a methodology is followed to evaluate commercial air conditioners without dismantling them. Comparison were undertaken between the measurements performed, data supplied by the manufacturer and the literature with the purpose of verifying an appropriate operation. A series of conclusions have been withdrawn about operative parameters, among others, it has been established the effect of combustible gas fluctuation in the machine perfomance and feasibility of non-continuous operation.
