Bibliometric and prospective study of industrial engineering in Latin America: a review of the literature and future trends
Abstract
In a globalized world with accelerating economies, the business and university context must venture into the search for new methodologies that allow us to improve and be at the forefront of the international context. In this sense, the objective of this article is to analyze the evolution and trends of industrial engineering in Latin America, through a prospective bibliometric study. The research is based on exploratory mechanisms of bibliographic sources and a review of the literature on the discipline. The proposed methodology is based on three fundamental stages (i) Bibliometric study, (ii) Literature review and (iii) Future trends. Among the results obtained, it was found that industrial engineering is a predominant discipline at the time, with a high research boom in Latin America. It is concluded that it presents an enabling scenario towards future trends, considering the application of advanced technologies and modern methodologies, with applicability in universities and industries.
