Information and Communication Technology and export activity in manufacturing companies in Colombia
Abstract
The objective of this research was to study the relationship that Information and Communication Technologies have with the propensity to export of manufacturing companies, for the year 2018, in Colombia. With the information from the information technology module of the Annual Manufacturing Survey for the year 2018, first of all, a descriptive analysis of the behavior of the chosen variables is carried out. Second, as a statistical technique, a Probit model is identified and estimated to determine the different effects that each of the information technology tools has. The results show that the propensity to export is associated with some factors described by the theory, such as the use of the computer, the laptop, owning a website. It is concluded that it is pertinent to incentivize the exports of manufacturing companies with the investment of ICT goods, increase the capacities that they have to improve the distribution and commercialization processes, and thereby generate economic growth, in addition to being prepared for any type of events that directly affect marketing.
