Biodegradación de fenol en un sistema de tratamiento combinado UASB+RBC*.
Abstract
Se evaluó el desempeño de un sistema de tratamiento combinado UASB+RBC durante el abordaje de un efluente sintético, utilizando como fuente de carbono fenol y glucosa, bajo condiciones mesofílicas y a escala de laboratorio. En los ensayos experimentales se establecieron 3 etapas, durante las cuales se aplicaron concentraciones de fenol desde 20 hasta 40 mg/L, con 4000 mg/L de glucosa. Se monitorearon los siguientes parámetros fisicoquímicos: pH, alcalinidad total, demanda química de oxígeno (DQO), nitrógeno total Kjeldahl (NTK), ortofosfato (PO4 3-), sólidos suspendidos totales (SST) y volátiles (SSV), y contenido de fenol. Los resultados demostraron una alta eficiencia del sistema combinado para la degradación del fenol hasta valores de 99,62%, cumpliendo con lo exigido por la normativa venezolana en materia de vertido a cuerpos de agua. Este sistema puede ser considerado para el diseño de procesos de tratamiento a escala piloto, para la remoción de carbono, nitrógeno y fenol, ya que mostró resultados prometedores durante los ensayos de laboratorio.
