Resumen

The aggressiveness of the Venezuelan atmospheric environment was assessed by measuring climate and pollution factors and determining the corrosion rate of A-36 carbon steel, 3003 Al, Cu, and Zn. So, this paper presents the atmospheric corrosivity maps in Venezuela (MVCAT) for A-36 Carbon Steel, 3003 Al and Cu. This projects was developed by a group of Venezuelan interinstitutional researchers using the results obtained during the first year of evaluation. To that effect is therefore proposing a new concept for reporting the characterization of an atmosphere in a single map, allowing corrosion rate and meteorological and chemical parameters that chiefly affect each particular microclimate to be show there on. The new concept proposed herein comprises an atmospheric-corrosivity map consisting of pies, not isolines or colors as usually the case when reporting results. In a pie, it is very easy to establish climatological and corrosivity differences in the regions evaluated here in Venezuela, because the pie is subdivided into portions representing the weight of each variable under study, with the pie diameter being the corrosion rate for the material in that area. The corrosive characteristics of the region are likewise in the map in compliance with standard ISO 9223.
