Evaluación de las propiedades mecánicas de una mezcla asfáltica en caliente modificada por vía seca con tapas plásticas de polipropileno

Resumen

Se reporta la evaluación de una mezcla asfáltica en caliente, convencionalmente usada en las calles de Ecuador, modificada con tapas plásticas de polipropileno a fin de mejorar sus características mecánicas y volumétricas. La mezcla se modificó empleando residuos triturados de tapas plásticas de botellas en tamaño de agregado equivalente al retenido en el tamiz número 8, que de acuerdo a la normativa ASTM es de 2,36 milímetros. Se llevaron a cabo ensayos de estabilidad y flujo Marshall sobre muestras fabricadas con diferentes porcentajes de residuos de polipropileno con un contenido óptimo de betún. Se obtuvo que la adición de tapas de polipropileno mejora de las propiedades para el diseño Marshall de la mezcla. Los resultados indican que se logró una mezcla asfáltica modificada con características útiles para un buen desempeño como mezclas asfálticas para pavimentación.
