Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Rules for authors 

1. The Journal of Political Issues shall consider only unpublished works for publication and have not been proposed simultaneously to other journals. Work will be completed throughout the year.

2. The work should conform to the thematic orientation of the journal and its standards. The manuscripts shall have a maximum length of twenty-five (25) quarters, written in Times New Roman number twelve (12) to double space and with the following margins: left three (3) centimeters; right, top and bottom two (2) centimeters. The numbering must be consecutive and in Arabic numerals. It must be written impersonally.

3. The title must be explanatory and contain the essence of the work, if possible, should not exceed eight words.

4. The summary of the work should include objectives, methodology, results and conclusions, its maximum extent is two hundred (200) words written to a space and must contain five (5) keywords, which will reflect the content of the article and be present in the summary. These keywords are necessary for inclusion in international indices. It should be indicated in the title with an asterisk (*), at the bottom of the summary, whether the work is part of an investigation or has been used for other purposes, such as presentations, project advances or research programmes, among others. The job title, summary and keywords must be presented in languages: Spanish and English (abstract).

5. Write full names and surnames of the author(s) without professional titles. Indicate, at the footer of the summary of the work, the institutional registration indicating the body, institution, center, institute or unit, as well as its addresses and emails.

6. The body of the work should have the following order: introduction, development and conclusions. Development should be divided into sections, identified by subtitles. Comments at the footer will be made when strictly necessary for additional explanations, listed consecutively, and written to a (1) space.

7. Bibliographic quotations included in the text must be made by surname of the author and year of the work, for example: (Contreras Portillo, 2005). When the quotation is textual it is enclosed in quotation marks, and the author's surnames, year of the work and page number must appear, for example: (Contreras Portillo, 2005: 56); in case of several authors, the surnames of the first author appearing in the text to be quoted are placed and the expression et is added to, for example: (Contreras Portillo et al, 2005: 24). If the quotation consists of several continuous pages must be separated by a hyphen, for example: (Contreras Portillo, 2005: 54-55), when the quotation is from isolated, non-continuous pages, they must be separated by a comma, for example: (Contreras Portillo, 2005: 56, 58, 60). If there are multiple quotations from the same author published in the same year, they are distinguished by letters, for example: (Contreras Portillo, 2005a) and (Contreras Portillo, 2005b). In the case-law, the issuing body, date of decision, source, year and page, is placed, for example: (Supreme Court of Justice, Constitutional Chamber: 6-11-2001, Pierre Tapia, 2001: 55). In the case of quotations from normative texts, the name of the normative text, year and article is placed, for example: (Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, 1999: Article 49). Internet quotations must contain the surnames of the author, website and year of publication, for example: (Contreras Portillo, in: www.luz.edu.ve, 2008). Textual quotations of more than 40 words will be included in a separate paragraph, in bulk, and in a single space. Quotes of quotations should be used in strictly necessary cases, placing the surnames of the annotated author, then the expression quoted by, the surnames of the author of the work, year and page, for example: (Contreras Portillo, quoted by: Chirinos Medina, 2009: 54).

8. Bibliographic references consist of the texts quoted contextually or verbatim in the work, must appear at the end of the work with the complete data of the authors quoted in the content, and be written to one (1) space and (2) two spaces between each.

It must be arranged in alphabetical order, taking into account the first surname of the aforementioned author. The rules of the Harvard system must be followed as follows: surnames of the author in capital letters (comma); name (dot); year of publication (without parentheses)(dot); title of the book, or, if applicable, the book chapter, magazine article or newspaper article followed by the word "In" and then place the name of the book, magazine or newspaper (period); editorial (dot); place of publication (dot); in the case of a book chapter, magazine article or newspaper article, the pages comprising the article should be noted, for example: Pp. 250-275.

If more than one work by the same author is referenced, but published in different years, the list will be sorted chronologically, that is, in descending form, starting with the year of the last of the published works.

If two (2) or more works by the same author have the same year of publication, an alphabetical code (a, b, c,...) shall be added to it, sorted together taking into account the first letter of the title of the work and following that code, for example 1995a, 1995b, 1995c.

If there are several authors of the same work, the surnames and names of all, separated by semicolons, should be placed.

In the case of references to jurisprudence it shall be placed as follows: body which issued the decision (point), full date (point), case dealt with (point), source (point), place (point), editorial (if any) (point) and pages.

References to normative texts shall be as follows: issuing body (point), year of publication (without parentheses) (point), title of the standard (point), place (point), number of the disclosing body (point) and date.

References taken from the Internet must contain the author's surname and name (dot), year of publication (without parentheses) (dot), title of the work (period); the word "In" followed by the website (dot); day, month and year in which the consultation was made.

9. Send properly identified original, plus three (3) copies without any identification and a work-contentive CD and transcribed into Word Word Processor. The floppy disk must be labeled identifying the author(s) and the title of the work. The work should be sent with a communication addressed to the Director or Director of the Journal, requesting its publication, and state that the work has not been submitted to arbitration and / or published in another journal. Such communication must be subscribed by all authors and indicate the name of each of the authors with their address, telephone(s) and emails.

10. The work shall be considered by the editorial committee of the Journal and shall be subject to a thorough review by a committee of arbitrators, selected in order to maintain a high academic and scientific level. The evaluation will be carried out according to the following criteria: identification of the manuscript; correspondence of the title with the contents of the manuscript, as well as the correct syntax of the manuscript; the importance of the subject studied, this is its social relevance, scientific academic; originality and relevance of the discussion; measure of the impact of approaches on work; design and methodology; assessment of the architecture of the article according to the presentation criteria, both formal and methodological; internal organization, clarity and coherence of the discourse that facilitates its reading; the quality of the summary, which must synthetically account for the content of the summary; relevance of bibliographic sources.

After the evaluation by the designated committee of arbitrators, the author shall be informed of the relevant decision. If the arbitrators recommend amendments, the editorial committee shall establish a reasonable period of time for the author or authors to carry them out. After the specified period, without the corrections being received, it will be understood that the work has been waived in the Journal.

 

The Journal Political Issues is not obliged to explain to its collaborators the reasons for the rejection of their manuscripts, nor to provide copies of the arbitrations given the confidentiality they possess.

Checklist for shipping preparation

As part of the submission process, authors are required to verify that their shipment complies with all of the items shown below. Submissions that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to authors.

The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration by any other magazine (or an explanation has been provided in the Editor's Comments).

The send file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.

Where possible, URLs are provided for references.

The text has a simple leading, a font size of 12 points, italic is used instead of underline (except in URLs), and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the appropriate text places, rather than at the end.

The text meets the stylistic and bibliographical conditions included in Guidelines for the Author, in About the Journal.

In the case of sending the text to the peer evaluation section, the instructions in Ensuring an Anonymous Evaluation are followed.
