Abstract

Already half a century ago, at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm in 1972, the important role of education and mass media was warned to stop environmental deterioration. This research aims to discover the contributions of education and the diffusion of environmental news in the construction of citizenship, based on qualitative research. The biographical method was applied, specifically the life story, to achieve the proposed objective, leaving the little effectiveness that the calls made by international organizations have had to ensure the citizens receive adequate education and information on environmental/ecological issues among the conclusions.
