Gender gap in coastal and marine ecosystems scientific publications
Abstract
To measure the gender gap that exists in coastal and marine research, this article performed a bibliometric study that analysed 929 publications and found that 59.82% of all authors were men and 36.81% were women, whereas 59.30% men and 38.90% women occupied the position of first author and 62.72% and 35.71% women were corresponding authors. The homophily principle was evident, although much greater in teams lead by men. It was also found that male authors are more mobile than their female colleagues. It was confirmed that the gender gap in scientific publications in this field of research persists.
