INTERVENTION WITH FAMILIES FROM POSITIVE PARENTING. THE EXPERIENCE OF THE CITY OF ZARAGOZA (SPAIN)
Abstract
The article analyses the intervention with families carried out by the Family Support Program of the Social Services of the city of Zaragoza, specifically how and to what extend the principles of positive parenting are included. Data come from interviews with 13 social workers and educators and from the review of 118 social work case files of the users of the program. For the analysis, a theoretical approach is offered to the concept of positive parenting and, specifically, to the elements that allow determining whether or not a practice follows the perspective of positive parenting; that is, the ecosystem model, the evolutionary-educational and community approach, and the principle of empowerment. A section is also devoted to the theoretical models on which parenting programs are based. The results show the presence or absence of positive parenting elements at the theoretical level (of the framework document of the program) and at the empirical level (professional discourse and social records). The study discusses the theoretical-practical inconsistencies, concluding that the case study is far from being considered an intervention based on positive parenting.
