Analysis of sexual violence at night leisure

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization sexual violence is any sexual act, attempt to consume a sexual act, comments or unwanted sexual advances, or actions to commercialize or otherwise use the sexuality of a person through coercion by another, regardless of her relationship with the victim, in any setting, including the home and workplace.The study that is presented, financed by the Malaga City Council to the Civic Association for Prevention, within the State Pact against Gender Violence, is designed with the aim of quantitative method analyzing the multiple forms of sexual violence that occur in spaces nightlife spaces, with the consumption of psychoactive substances being frequent, through the application of 1,046 surveys, between the months of April to June 2019 in the city of Malaga. The results show that 58,48% of women have witnessed some form of sexual violence while the percentage of men rises to 53,13%. Likewise, 42,6% of women indicate having suffered sexual violence in the first person compared to 28.886% of men who manifest it. It is concluded that in nightlife spaces there are multiple forms of sexual violence normalized today in a sexist and patriarchal context, where women are the ones who perceive it the most and suffer it. Hence the need to intensify preventive strategies and civic education to eradicate sexual assaults in our society.
