LOSS IN THE FOLLOW-UP OF SENSITIVE ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS TREATMENT IN THE PROVINCE OF MANABI – ECUADOR
Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) is a preventable, curable disease and a public health problem worldwide. A quarter of the world’s population is infected with the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. People infected with the tuberculosis bacillus have a lifetime risk of contracting the disease between 5% and 15%. The loss in the follow-up of the anti-tuberculous treatment, is the affected with TB who did not start treatment or interrupted it for a month or more and in Ecuador according to the regulations it must be less than 6%. The loss in the follow-up of anti-tuberculous treatment constitutes an important barrier for the control and elimination of tuberculosis, which can lead to treatment failure, development of bacterial resistance, spread of infection and increased health costs. In the present study, the number of people affected with TB with loss in the follow-up of sensitive anti-tuberculous treatment was determined in the province of Manabí - Ecuador, from 2015 to 2019. The research was descriptive-observational, retrospective with a quantitative and cutoff approach. cross. The population consisted of 70 patients affected by TB who did not start treatment or interrupted it for a month or more. Data collection was performed from the registration and information system of the Tuberculosis Strategy. The statistical analysis of data was processed through the Microsoft program. ® Excel 2016, using frequencies and percentages. The arithmetic mean of the loss of follow-up of antituberculous treatment was 14.82%, being more frequent in new cases of TB, with a predominance in males and in the age group 25 - 44 years.
