MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY OF KPC ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19 HOSPITAL GENERAL RIOBAMBA PERIOD 2021

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to determine the pattern of morbidity and mortality of a population defined in the Riobamba General Hospital of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security, for cases of Klebsiella Pneumoniae producing Carbapenemases associated with Covid-29 the period from February to August of the year. 2021. A retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive design study was conducted. Data from 34 patients admitted and distributed in the internal medicine, critical emergency and intensive care units were analyzed. For data tabulation, the SPSS 20 statistical program was used and the analysis was performed with descriptive statistics. The average age of the patients was 58 years; 59% male and 41% female; 88% admitted to the ICU; 6% admitted to Internal Medicine; 6% admitted in Emergency Critical; 48% without underlying pathologies; 20% with essential arterial hypertension; 14% with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 9% with hypothyroidism, and 9% with other underlying pathologies such as polycythemia, renal failure, and venous insufficiency. 85% of the patients were infected and 15% colonized. 88% had pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation; 6% had a 59 CVC-associated bloodstream infection and 6% a urinary tract infection associated with an indwelling urinary catheter. The attack rate represented 28% and the mortality rate 73%, which represents a real public health problem in cases of Klebsiella Pneumoniae producing Carbapenems associated with Covid-19 and the use of Invasive Medical Devices
