NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF RENAL PATIENTS UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS HEMODIALYSIS
Abstract
Malnutrition exists in dialysis patients due to low protein intake in the diet or hypercatabolism typical of dialysis; this malnutrition can cause the death of the patient, which is a determining factor; the objective of this research was to determine the nutritional status through the Global Objective Assessment at the beginning, at three and six months of treatment of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment. The present research was of a non-experimental type, since it does not contemplate an intervention on a certain population. The research design was prospective and longitudinal. The sample consisted of 73 patients diagnosed with End-Stage Chronic Kidney Disease, who started hemodialysis treatment. Observation and primary data collection techniques were used, using the "Global Objective Assessment" form for nutritional assessment. The total male sample consisted of 35 patients and the female sample consisted of 38 patients. The mean age of the male sample was 52 ± 15.73 years and that of the female sample was 64.5 ± 12.45 years. It was possible to observe an improvement in the reduction of the initial high risk of malnutrition in the male sex of 25.30%, there was a reduction of this percentage, since the final high risk of malnutrition was 14%. The percentage without risk of initial malnutrition was 27.60% and the final percentage was 56.80% in the male sex. The percentage without risk of initial malnutrition was 13% with a final of 45.30% in the female sex.
