SUSTAINABLE HABITABILITY IN DWELLING CASE: MONTE CLARO - LAS PLAYITAS, MARACAIBO
Abstract
The main purpose of the article is to show part of the results of a research done according to the habitability issue, considering a qualitative aspect such as the notion people have about a community what is “habitable”. These notions were compared with some international criteria as well as Venezuelan in order to evaluate it. It deals with life quality in territories, satisfaction of material and immaterial needs; aspects that contribute to raise “appraisal” of natural, physical, social and human capital (Jordán, 2005). This is a documentary, field-type research to evaluate a case study: the community of Monte Claro - Las Playitas, located at Olegario Villalobos civil parish in Maracaibo. Results showed that this community has favorable conditions of habitability due to its location in consolidated zones. Deficiencies in spatiality, equipment and conditioning of spaces emphasizing ventilation were evidenced. It was detected that people”™s notion of habitability disagrees with referred indicators in some aspects: spaces built or wish by them exceed minimum measures; it is not relevant to separate social environments from private ones in the dwelling; it is not a priority to build bathroom facilities within the first phase of its consolidation and the air conditioning system is a very important domestic equipment. Hence, it is concluded the importance to study the notions people have about habitability prior to evaluations and proposals to improve it and making it sustainable.
