Abstract

In the Biblián canton of Ecuador, there is limited knowledge about the percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price. The limited information available on this indicator avoid the evaluation of the marketing margin of both the producer and the intermediary. Using a stratified sample (E1, E2, and E3) of 232 producers, the purpose of this study was identify the distribution of percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price in this region and subsequently calculate bootstrap confidence intervals (95%) to estimate the median, interquartile range, the ratio of the 90th percentile to the median, the minimum, and the maximum. The percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price distribution was positively skewed, with the majority of producers (88.4%) having low percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price (43.33 %, 44.44 %, and 45.56 %) and a minority (11.6 %) had high percentages (46.67 %, 47.78 %, and 50 %). The minimum and the median confidence intervals showed high precisioncoincidingwith the point estimate, 43.33 - 43.33 % and 44.44 – 44.46 % respectively, while the maximum showed greater uncertainty (47.78 – 50 %). The variability of the percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price at the center of the distribution was estimated between 0.00% and 1.12 %, and the inequality in the right tail it was 3 % to 8 %. The percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price were different between strata (Kruskal-Wallis), producers with few animals (E1) presented the lowest percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price (43.33 % and 44.44 %), those with an intermediate quantity (E2) showed slight superiority (44.44 % and 45.56 %) compared to E1, and those (E3) with a greater number of animals concentrated high percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price (46.67 % and 47.78 %). The results obtained using confidence intervals for these position statistics in the percentage participation of dairy producers in the final sales price distribution provide a more complete perspective on the behavior of this indicator in the Biblián canton.
