Representaciones mentales y procesos cognitivos en estudiantes universitarios
Mental representationes and cognitive processes in university students
Abstract
It is very important to know the mental representations and the cognitive processes
university students have in a given situation. The objective of this study is to inquire about the
mental representations and cognitive processes of students. It is a quantitative study, since it
seeks to inquire about the levels of mental representations and cognitive processes that students
have in the resolution of problems. The methodology used is a case study since a population of
10 students is chosen. Within the theoretical framework, a journey is made by different authors,
based on the concept of representation, the representational media, the forms of representation
and the levels of representation, as well as the theories about the cognitive processes of a student.
Finally we conclude that symbolic representations are the means by which mental representations
are externalized in the resolution of mathematical problems.
