Breve introducción de los Primates del nuevo mundo

Resumen

Este texto desea presentar una breve introducción a los primates del
continente americano. Con cerca de doscientos especies y subespecies hasta
hoy conocidas y clasificadas, el Nuevo Mundo constituye un excepcional la-
boratorio natural para comprender la evolución de nuestros primos cerca-
nos; la adaptación a las condiciones ambientales de las diversas especies;
pero también las tensiones entre especies que se generaron en los encuentros
entre primates humanos y no humanos. Para considerar esto, inicialmente
se presenta una introducción a los estudios sobre el origen de los primates
“neo-tropicales.” Posteriormente, las diversas especias de primates que habi-
taron el continente se enumeran y describen, de forma sencilla, para eviden-
ciarnos las características específicas de las especies. Finalmente, la última
parte será dedicada a considerar las principales amenazas a la conservación
de esas especies.
