Abstract

A new species of Culicoides, C. perijaensis n.sp, is described, and illustrated based on female specimens captured in the Perija zone in Zulia state, Venezuela. A light tramp was used to collect them. Specimens were slide mounted in Creosote-Canada balsam and examined and measured. They were identified by their antennae, palpus, proboscis, thorax, wings, legs, abdomen, spermathecae characteristics and links to species of the same genus found in the Zulia state.
