Reflexiones de fin de año
Abstract
Nos complace que nuestra publicación arribe a un año más de existencia, arribando a su 58 aniversario. el año 2020 ha sido un año lleno de dificultades, retos y desafíos para nuestra sociedad, sistemas económicos y de gobierno.
Enfrentamos la pandemia de la COVID-19, la cual nos ha obligado a reconsiderar nuestras prioridades y estilos de vida, así como nuestras políticas de desarrollo, también nos ha permitido conocer el verdadero lugar que ocupamos en el ecosistema de nuestro planeta, mostrándonos que no somos la especie dominante e invencible capaz de transformar nuestro entorno a voluntad.
La historia ha demostrado que, periódicamente, los humanos nos enfrentamos a pandemias producidas por enfermedades infecciosas; sin embargo, a pesar del avance tecnológico en todas las áreas, incluyendo las ciencias médicas y, especialmente, el control de infecciones, al parecer no estábamos lo suficientemente preparados para enfrentar esta pandemia.
Nuestros sistemas de gobierno, económicos y de producción han generado un deterioro general del medio ambiente, han permitido la creación de un alto porcentaje de población en estado de pobreza, refugiados y desplazados, también han permitido el incremento de enfermedades crónicas como hipertensión, diabetes y obesidad, toda esta población desasistida o ajena a los sistemas de salud son el blanco principal del SARS-COV-2.
La pandemia ha demostrado que el sistema de salud de ningún país estaba lo suficientemente preparado para enfrentar este problema, todos los países sin importar el tamaño de su producto interno bruto han visto sus sistemas de salud colapsados.
