Editorial. Revista Kasmera: un proyecto en evolución continua
Abstract
El papel de la investigación dentro de una institución universitaria es primordial. Generalmente, en nuestra región, se considera a las instituciones de educación superior como entes donde se obtiene una formación para ejercer alguna profesión; sin embargo, las universidades cumplen una función mucho más importante y constituyen el principal motor generador de investigación a nivel mundial. El paso por una universidad debe significar mucho más que obtener un título profesional, estas deben contribuir al cumplimiento de la función misma de la universidad “la producción de nuevos conocimientos”, y esto se logra, únicamente, mediante la investigación.
Con base en estos preceptos, el Dr. Adolfo Pons, en septiembre del año 1962 funda la revista KASMERA con el fin de dar a conocer los trabajos de investigación realizados por el personal docente y de investigación del Departamento de Microbiología y Enfermedades Tropicales de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad del Zulia, enfocándose, principalmente, en las disciplinas bacteriología, micología, parasitología, inmunología y medicina tropical. Sin embargo, con el paso de los años, la revista se ha transformado y, en sus páginas se publicaron investigaciones de otras Facultades de la Universidad del Zulia; posteriormente, trabajos de otras universidades, tanto nacionales como extranjeras y, actualmente, se ha convertido en una revista internacional de acceso abierto (Open Access Journal).

Kasmera is considered a green SHERPA/RoMEO journal, that is, it allows self-archiving of both the pre-print (draft of a manuscript) and the post-print (the corrected and peer-reviewed version) and even the final version (layout as it will be published in the journal) both in personal repositories and in institutional and databases.
