Impacto de la elastografía transitoria en el manejo de la hepatitis viral crónica
Impact of transient elastography in the management of chronic viral hepatitis
Abstract
Chronic infection by hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV and HCV) through their action on hepatocytes, cholangiocytes, Kupfer cells and lymphocytes-neutrophils leads to the generation of different mediators (TNF-α, TGF-β, PDGF ), which promote the differentiation of hepatic stellate cells to activated myofibroblasts, which are responsible for the generation of abnormal deposits of collagen I and II, proteinglycans and hyaluronic acid, in a process known as fibrosis, which to the extent that is perpetual, leads to the appearance of cirrhosis, from which moment the possibility of developing portal hypertension, liver failure and hepatocarcinoma increases significantly.
