Clubfoot in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). Case report
Abstract
Clubfoot, or talipes equinovarus, is a rare congenital malformation in small species such as guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). A case is reported of a three-month-old female guinea pig presenting medial deviation of the forelimbs, without apparent systemic involvement. This condition is associated with intrauterine mechanical factors, neurological defects, genetic alterations, or interruptions in fetal development. The finding is relevant due to the scarcity of reports in guinea pigs, in contrast to cattle, sheep, and dogs. This report contributes to the clinical description and etiopathogenic discussion of clubfoot in small species, further highlighting the value of guinea pigs as a biomedical model for the analysis of congenital malformations.
