ABSTRACT

Bovine brucellosis is considered one of the most important infectious diseases in the world due to its public health implications. For the investigation, samples were taken of 24,098 cattle of 1,289 farms, were discriminated as females of 18-35 months (mon), females between 36-59 mon, females over 60 mon and males. The Rose Bengal (RB), Polarized fluorescence (PF), Indirect Elisa (iE) and confirmatory Competitive Elisa (cE) tests were used as diagnostic tests. Of the 24,098 sera processed, a prevalence of brucellosis of 1.75% was found, corresponding to 424 animals infected and located in the following areas: West with 37.07%, followed by the southern zone with 32.28%, the central zone with 32.20%, the east region with 28.95 and the northern zone with 19.63%, confirmed by cE. When the females were separated by age ranges from 24 to 35 mon, 36 to 59 mon and over 60 mon, it was found that as age increases, in general terms, the prevalence becomes greater. The greater sensitivity and specificity of the cE test compared with the other modified RB, conventional RB, PF, and iE tests are confirmed, and it is possible to detect and differentiate vaccinated females from infected
