Diabetes y Covid-19. ¿Hay algo nuevo?

Keywords: diabetes, COVID-19, hyperglycemia

Abstract

The association of diabetes with COVID-19 has been extensively studied since the beginning of the pandemic. The mechanisms involved act bi-directionally and establish a vicious cycle with COVID-19 that leads to worsening of hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus, in turn, exacerbating the severity of COVID-19. There is de novo development of diabetes in patients post-infected with COVID-19. Various pathophysiological mechanisms have been suggested in the relationship between diabetes and COVID-19 and its management.
