Analyses of the Fungi Collection of the Venezuelan National Herbarium (VEN) and its Type Specimens
Análisis de la colección de hongos del Herbario Nacional de Venezuela (VEN) y sus muestras tipo
Abstract
The Venezuelan National Herbarium (VEN) holds the maindried fungi collection of Venezuela with 13,300 specimens (25% identified and 75% unidentified), of which 90%, are from Venezuela. 52% of the identified specimens belong to Basidiomycota, 33% to Ascomycota and the rest to other fungi groups. The total number of species present in the collection represent 27% of the species reported for Venezuela and between 0.7% and 1.4% of all the described species of the Fungi Kingdom estimated for the world. The most abundant families are Nectriaceae and Xylariaceae in Ascomycota and Tricholomataceae and Polyporaceae in Basidiomycota. A list of the 26 type specimens deposited in VEN is presented.
