Abstract

Autonomous learning mediated by the available digital technologies is a competence all pre graduate student should have, since it offers great opportunities for growth and lifelong learning. This paper presents the results of an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) course undertaken by students working autonomously using available digital technology in a distance learning environment. It is framed within Ikonen (2013) y Lee (2016) proposals. The subjects were students from Universidad Simón Bolívar in Venezuela enrolled in the Voluntary Academic Levelling Program and the course was designed as a pilot study. This is a quantitative after the fact field research with a pre-post test design. Results confirmed the alternative hypothesis, thus there is positive significant statistical difference between the post test and the pre test, after the treatment (t = 3,147, gl = 29, p = ,004). This finding suggests that students improved their general English competence after treatment.
