cia e identidad de cada uno de los ejemplares. El descubrimiento
de los tipos primarios de estas especies de mariposas y polillas
y su designación formal de acuerdo con las normas estableci-
das por el Código Internacional de Nomenclatura Zoológica
(ICZN 1999) anticipan la invalidación de neotipos previamen-
te designados sin las investigaciones históricas apropiadas ni bús-
quedas sucientes en colecciones y museos.
Nuestro extraordinario hallazgo es de suma relevancia para
la estabilidad nomenclatural de un número signicativo de ta-
xones de mariposas de todo el mundo, la mayoría de ellas espe-
cies bien conocidas o emblemáticas en varios países, pero otras
francamente raras o probablemente extintas. Este descubrimien-
to pone de relieve la necesidad de valorar en su justa medida las
colecciones históricas y antiguas, que con demasiada frecuencia
son despreciadas por la moda imperante o han quedado parcial-
mente olvidadas en museos considerados instituciones menores
por su carácter local o provincial.

Venezuela
El pasado mes de septiembre durante una breve visita a la ciu-
dad de Canberra –auspiciada por la Embajada de la República
Bolivariana de Venezuela en la Mancomunidad de Australia y por
su homólogo en Polonia– fue posible el reencuentro de Ángel L.
